The "Rozovye ot Matryony" (Pink from Matryona) tomato is an heirloom variety traditionally selected by gardeners from generation to generation for its exceptional flavor, large fruit size, and resilience. Its exact origin is unknown. It was sent to me as a gift under this name.
Key characteristics of the variety:
  • Plant type: Indeterminate (tall, often exceeding 2 meters), requires staking and pruning (best managed with 2–3 stems).
  • Maturity: Mid-season.
  • Fruit:
    • Weight: 150 to 300 grams (individual specimens can grow larger).
    • Color: Bright pink.
    • Shape: Oblate (flattened-round).
    • Skin: Thin.
    • Flesh: Meaty and juicy.
  • Flavor and aroma: Rich and sweet with a subtle tang and a distinctive, savory aroma.
  • Usage: Versatile — perfect for fresh summer salads, as well as homemade juices, sauces, and ketchups.
  • Growing conditions: In temperate climates, it performs best in greenhouses or under film covers.
