Tomato "Vishnyoviy" (translates to Cherry / Cherry-colored) is an exclusive, rare large-fruited heirloom tomato variety originating from Poland. It is not produced by large commercial seed companies and is preserved exclusively through private collections. It has earned high acclaim for its striking dark cherry-lilac color and exceptional dessert flavor.
Main Characteristics of the Variety
- Bush type: Indeterminate (tall). In greenhouses, the plants are robust, growing up to 1.6–1,8 meters or more. Regular-type foliage.
- Ripening period: Mid-season.
- Yield: High.
- Pruning and training: Requires mandatory suckering and sturdy support staking. Fruit size depends entirely on pruning: when kept to 1 stem, it produces giants; 2 stems yield 150–300g fruits; 3+ stems result in smaller but more numerous fruits.
Fruit Description
- Color and shape: The fruits feature a very attractive, soft round-heart or blunt heart shape. The color is extraordinary: when fully ripe, they turn a deep, glossy dark-cherry, violet-maroon, or dusky purple color, often with emerald-green shoulders.
- Weight: A heavy-weight giant variety. The average weight is 150–300 grams.
- Taste qualities: The flesh is dark crimson, incredibly meaty, dense, buttery in texture, and contains very few seeds. The flavor is exceptional — intensely sweet, rich, and well-balanced with a deep tomato aroma.
- Usage: Primarily a premium salad tomato for fresh slicing. It is also fantastic for turning into thick artisanal sauces, pastes, and rich dark juices
