Tomato "Kurzemes zelts" (also known as Kurland Gold) is a rare, heirloom family tomato variety originating from Latvia. The breeder and keeper of this collection variety is the well-known Latvian collector Valdis Pulins.
Main Characteristics of the Variety
- Bush type: Indeterminate (tall). In greenhouse conditions, the plant grows from 1.2 to 1.8+ meters in height. Foliage is moderate, with regular-type leaves.
- Ripening period: Mid-early or mid-season.
- Pruning and training: It is recommended to grow the plant with 1–2 stems, with mandatory suckering (pazarīšu izgriešana) and staking.
Fruit Description
- Color and shape: The fruits are oblate (beefsteak type) in shape, with a beautiful honey-yellow or yellowish-orange hue.
- Weight: On average, the fruits weigh between 100 and 300 grams. Tomatoes maintain a large size on almost all clusters, becoming slightly smaller only on the topmost clusters.
- Taste qualities: The flesh is fleshy, juicy, very sweet, and has a distinct, pleasant aroma. Due to their low acid content, yellow tomatoes are excellent for dietary and baby food.
- Usage: Best used fresh, for making vibrant salads, as well as for making thick yellow juice and sauces.
