The "Yashchenko Giant" (Gigant Yashchenko) tomato is a rare large-fruited collection variety developed by the well-known amateur breeder Tamara Yashchenko from Biysk, Altai. Gardeners value it for its impressive yield, low-maintenance nature, and the superb taste of its huge, "watermelon-like" fruits.
        Main Characteristics of the Variety
  • Bush type: Indeterminate (tall). In greenhouse conditions, the vigorous stem easily grows up to 2 meters. It requires mandatory removal of side shoots (suckering) and sturdy securing to a vertical support or trellis.
  • Ripening time: Early-season variety. For a large-fruited giant category, this is a rare and valuable trait, allowing you to harvest the first massive fruits earlier than other varieties.
  • Growing conditions: Suitable for planting both in protected ground (polycarbonate and plastic greenhouses) and in open garden beds staked to posts.
  • Yield: Consistently high. Due to its powerful root system, the bush sets fruit well even under adverse weather conditions or temperature fluctuations.
  •          Description of the Fruit
  • Shape and mass: The fruits are oblate (flat-round) in shape, slightly ribbed near the stem. The average weight is 200–500 grams, but by regulating the number of ovaries in the cluster and providing proper nutrition, giants weighing over 700–800 grams can easily be grown.
  • Color: Deep, classic red when fully ripe.
  • Flesh structure: Thick, dense, with a "watermelon-like" texture when broken. The fruit contains virtually no free liquid, and the seed cavities are small.
  • Taste: Balanced, very sweet with a barely noticeable pleasant tang and a rich aroma of real homegrown tomatoes.
