“Honey Avenue” (Latvian name: Medus avenija) is a popular heirloom variety of indeterminate (tall-growing) tomato bred in Latvia by gardener and collector Valdis Pulins from the Talsi region.
Main characteristics of the variety
- Plant type: Indeterminate (tall-growing); the plant reaches approximately 1.4–1.8 meters in height (outdoors or in a greenhouse).
- Ripening time: Mid-season or mid-early variety.
- Fruit: Large, flattened-round bicolor fruit weighing 200 to 400 g (some reach 500 g or more).
- Color: Yellow-orange with striking pink streaks, rays, or a “pink cap” on top.
- Flesh and flavor: The flesh is yellow-orange with red streaks, very meaty and juicy, with a pronounced sweet flavor and pleasant fruity notes; the skin is firm and resistant to cracking.
- Uses: Primarily a salad tomato, prized for its sweet, dessert-like flavor and vivid appearance when sliced.
